General Definition of Work
Performs skilled administrative support work registering voters, preparing and maintaining voter records and files, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Elections Director.
The purpose of the Camden County Heritage Museum is to preserve, collect and interpret the history of Camden County, NC. The museum includes exhibits, interpretive panels, and various historic artifacts displaying Camden County’s history over hundreds of years. Preservation of a historic jailhouse built in 1910, educational programming, events, and activities are also an integral part of sharing this history. The Museum and Jail are a family-friendly destination for all.

Essential Functions: Elections Specialist – 50%
Assists in assembling material for precinct and public groups; compiles and mails information concerning voting procedures and other election data.
Registers voters, answers inquiries concerning voter registration laws, prepares, updates, and maintains current voter registration records utilizing a computer database.
Organizes and maintains files and records and creates new voter notification cards.
Operates computerized data entry equipment to prepare and print out various reports and records at the request of the supervisor; enters registration and election data through a computer terminal.
Assists in voter registration drives.
Composes routine correspondence; performs general clerical and typing duties.
Receives and verifies records to ensure that required information is provided and is correct.
Essential Functions: Museum Guide – 50%
Greet and welcome visitors.
Conduct museum tours for visitors and audiences of diverse backgrounds, which may include school-aged children, educators, seniors, visitors with special needs, and more upon request.
Travel to local schools to provide classroom programs as requested.
Maintain the security of the collection during tours. (“Please don’t touch”).
Continually be aware and keep informed about changes in the exhibits.
Represent the Camden County Heritage Museum professionally and courteously to members of the visiting public.
Interact with program participants and visitors in a positive and engaging manner.
Assist with set up and take down of program/event materials.
Assist with questions regarding tourist activities/local businesses.
Light Housekeeping – sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, and cleaning acrylic display cases.
Assist with paperwork pertaining to receiving/intake of collections donated or on loan.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment; some knowledge of Federal, State, and municipal voter registration laws and regulations; some knowledge of voting procedures, maintenance and protection of voter registration lists and records; ability to solve problems within the scope of responsibility; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
The Museum Guide is trained to provide educational services for museum visitors. This position provides a welcoming environment, guides visitors through the museum and program when requested, and helps to care for the collections. The Camden County Heritage Museum & Historic Jail share the history of Camden from the Indigenous People to the Colonial era and the Civil War period through World War II. This local museum also highlights the incredible lives of historical figures like Moses Grandy and the county’s rich cultural heritage designations (African American Experience of Northeast NC, National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, etc.) The Historic Jail is furnished to resemble an old sheriff’s office, along with the original bullpen containing four cells. The museum guide will assist with special programs/visits from school groups, senior living facilities, and much more.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in an office assistant/clerical position involving contact with the general public or equivalent combination of education and experience.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is an entry-level social work position. Primary responsibilities will be to provide generalist social work services across a variety of programs, including Work First, Adult Services, Children’s Services, and the Energy Programs.
This position will be responsible for taking Child and Adult Protective Services reports of alleged abuse, neglect, and dependency as a backup when needed.
This position will also take and process Crisis Intervention Assistance and Low-Income Energy Assistance Applications for persons experiencing difficulty with their heating/cooling and other related crisis events.
This position is required to be on-call at least one week each month or more often as vacancies and/or absences dictate to respond to after-hours protective services reports or other emergencies. This position also includes mandatory work as needed in emergency shelters in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
Computer proficiency is required. A valid North Carolina driver’s license and a vehicle for use at work are also required. Some situations may require the employee to work overtime hours. The work schedule is normally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work or directly related experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university, including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and one year directly related experience; or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of directly related experience. (Directly related experience is defined as Human Services experience in the area of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy, and treatment planning).
