Elections Specialist - Part-time

 

General Definition of Work

Performs skilled administrative support work registering voters, preparing and maintaining voter records and files, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Elections Director.

Essential Functions

Assists in assembling material for precinct and public groups; compiles and mails information concerning voting procedures and other election data.

Registers voters, answers inquiries concerning voter registration laws, prepares, updates, and maintains current voter registration records utilizing a computer database.

Organizes and maintains files and records, and creates new voter notification cards.

Operates computerized data entry equipment to prepare and print out various reports and records at the request of the supervisor; enters registration and election data through a computer terminal.

Assists in voter registration drives.

Composes routine correspondence; performs general clerical and typing duties.

Receives and verifies records to ensure that required information is provided and is correct.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

General knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment; some knowledge of Federal, State, and municipal voter registration laws and regulations; some knowledge of voting procedures, maintenance and protection of voter registration lists and records; ability to solve problems within the scope of responsibility;  ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in an office assistant/clerical position involving contact with the general public, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting and speaking or hearing and occasionally requires walking and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).

Special Requirements

This is a part-time position but the candidate will work full-time hours during elections.

The candidate must be willing to become a Notary Public within 1 year of employment.

Valid driver's license.
