General Definition of Work
Performs skilled administrative work for recording, indexing, and maintaining various real estate records. Must learn and understand the North Carolina Association of Register of Deeds Indexing Standards. Must understand how to record walk in documents and e-Recording documents.
Vital records such as births, death, and marriage licenses are recorded, indexed, and maintained here. Military records are recorded, indexed, and maintained here. Must understand the North Carolina Marriage Laws and be able to issue marriage licenses. Must understand how to issue certified copies of vital records.
Notary oath appointments are recorded and maintained here. Notaries are to be sworn in. And any other duties assigned.
Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Register of Deeds.
Essential Functions
Verify instruments presented are recordable and properly label the instruments Collect fees and issue receipts Scan instruments and maintain recorded copies Assists the public by phone and in person Prepare bank deposit and print out daily reports.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Some knowledge of the rules, laws, practices and procedures of the Register of Deeds office; some knowledge of standard office methods and procedures, business English, spelling and arithmetic; ability to operate standard office machines and computers; working knowledge of office programs and policies; ability to make decisions relating to assigned operations in conformance with applicable laws and policies; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work requires standing, walking, sitting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is general in a quiet location.
