  • Board of Commissioners

    The Camden County Board of Commissioners will meet in the boardroom of the Camden Public Library on January 2, 2024 at 7:00 PM for its Regular Meeting.  The Board of Commissioners will also convene as the South Camden Water & Sewer District Board of Directors during the Regular Meeting.

    You're invited to participate in a community mural art painting project at Camden County Public Library! Join artists Keith Norval and Anna Podris in creating a mural painting for the main library. This event is free and for adults and children of all ages and abilities. No registration is necessary.

    This painted mural will be displayed in the main room of the library for everyone to enjoy for years.

    Looking for something new and exciting? We have a new Mystery & Thriller Adult Book Club!

    A new book club has arrived, celebrating all things mystery and thriller!
    Our inaugural discussion will be on the novel "The Dry" by Jane Harper. There are limited copies available to check out, ask at the circulation desk.
     
    The discussion will begin at 6:00 PM in the library meeting room, and should last about an hour. Please feel welcome to bring snacks if you'd like!

    N.C. Cooperative Extension will be offering a ServSafe Food Safety Class in February. The class will be held at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center (120 Community Way Barco NC 27917) and will begin promptly at 9 a.m. each day. ServSafe is a course designed by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation to provide foodservice operators, managers, and support personnel with the knowledge essential for food preparation and handling to help reduce the risk of foodborne illness. The course covers handling food, from receiving and storing to preparing and serving. It provides research-based information on how to run a safe establishment.
     
    The 14-hour class will be scheduled as follows:
    • Feb 26th Instruction Day 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • Feb 27th Instruction Day 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • Feb 28th Exam Day 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
     
    Test Registration cost is $125 (which includes the 7th edition book and exam sheet.)
     
    Registration fees are non-refundable but are transferable to another person.

    Join us at the library on April 8th to view the solar eclipse! The library will have eclipse glasses on hand for anyone to use, plus eclipse-themed crafts for the family to enjoy.
    While our area is not in the path of totality for the solar eclipse, we should be able to see a 79% eclipse as long as the clouds stay away! The partial eclipse begins around 1:45 PM, but the peak viewing time will be 3:20 PM, just in time for the kids to get out of school!

    NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

    Notice is hereby given, in accordance with NCGS 160D-107 & NCGS 160D-601, that the Camden County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 6:00 P.M. in the boardroom of the Camden Public Library located at 118 NC Hwy 343 North in Camden, NC.  The purpose of the hearing is to receive public input and to discuss a possible temporary thirty-month moratorium ordinance on County development approvals of subdivisions and multifamily housing projects, as a result of limited water production and waste water treatment capacity and to allow the County to finalize design and construct new water and waste water treatment facilities.

  • Fall Native Plant Sale

    North Carolina Wildlife Federation and Wildlife Habitat Stewards of Northeastern NC Chapter will be hosting a Fall Native Plant Sale, Sunday, October 13th from 1:00pm - 3:00pm.

    Shop our collection of southeastern native perennials, grown locally in Edenton by Wetland Plants, Inc, an exclusively native plant nursery. The collection will include:

    Blue Mistflower, Swamp milkweed, Spotted Joe Pye Weed, Oxeye sunflower, and Seaside goldenrod.

    Planting native species is beneficial because they offer essential food and habitats for wildlife, ensuring their survival. They demand minimal upkeep, conserve water, naturally control pests, and promote environmental sustainability.

    Notice is hereby given that the Camden County Board of Commissioners will hold public hearings beginning at 5:30 PM on November 6, 2024 in the boardroom of the Camden Public Library located at 118 North Carolina Highway 343 North in Camden, North Carolina for the following:

    Consideration of amending the conditional use permit (UDO 2010-08-17) and development agreement (Ordinance No. 2010-12-01), for the property described in the Camden County records as having the Parcel ID number 01.7081.00.03.6230.000 and 01.7071.00.74.7921.000.  The property is zoned Planned Development (PD). A draft copy of the proposed amended conditional use permit and development agreement is available on the Camden County website at www.camdencountync.gov and at the Office of the Clerk to the Camden County Board of Commissioners, 330 East Hwy 158, Camden, North Carolina 27921. 

    Regardless of whether the County approves amending the development agreement and the conditional use permit, the property will remain zoned as Planned Development (PD).
