Due to the inclement weather, the Camden County Administrative Offices will be closed today. South Mills Watershed Advisory Committee
The South Mills Watershed Advisory Committee will meet next week on Wednesday, January 29th at 8:30 am. We will be meeting at the South Mills fire station. I have attached a proposed agenda. Initially, the main focus of the committee will be to recommend a rate structure and possible property exemptions to the board of commissioners. The public is invited to attend.

Paddle the historic Dismal Swamp Canal.
Paddle from South Mills, NC to Chesapeake, VA.
You must pre-register. Event fills quickly.
Paddle on the Dismal Swamp Canal, adjacent to the Great Dismal Swamp – “a unique and mysterious place” – charted by George Washington’s survey company in 1763. Paddlers push off into the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail and navigate their own canoes or kayaks, from South Mills, NC, to Chesapeake along the DSCT, joining other paddlers for a picnic lunch.

3rd Annual Dismal Day

The Dismal Swamp State Park, the Welcome Center and Camden County Parks & Rec are planning the third annual “Dismal Day” this fall with a variety of activities focused on nature and recreation. Wagon rides to a moonshine still, pontoon boat rides on the Dismal Swamp Canal, a scavenger hunt and more are planned. The event will begin with a free 5K family run/walk at 9:30 a.m.
Participants may pre-register by calling (252) 771-6593 by Sept. 28 or register at the event.
This is a special program designed specifically for tweens and teens.

2014 Holly Days Festival of Gifts

Camden Woman’s Club will be sponsoring their 29th annual Holly Days Craft and Gift Show.
The event will be held at Camden Intermediate School, Hwy 343 North, Camden, NC.
There will be gifts and crafts for everyone on your Christmas list including toys, crafts, jewelry, pottery, art and home décor. Concessions will be provided by Ebenezer Baptist Church which will include chicken pot pie, barbeque plates, soups, chocolate layer cakes and other baked items. Admission is $3 for Adults, $2 for Senior Citizens and $1 for students under 18. Children under 5 are admitted free.
Proceeds will fund the students’ scholarships, teachers’ grants, Christmas for area families and residential homes. Contact Cathie Williams, 2014 Publicity Chair at 252.336.4669 for more information.
