Human Resources/ Risk Management Specialist

 

Open until filled. Starting Salary: $ 42,493; 1st review will be November 20, 2019. Criminal History, Driving Record and Drug Screening required prior to hire. (County will pay for these). Must fill out a Camden County Employment Application.

 

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate professional work planning, organizing, directing and developing human resource programs, administering the classification and pay and safety and risk management programs; maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the County Manager.

Essential Functions

Assists employees and supervisors in interpreting, applying and meeting personnel policy standards and laws

Provides information for employees on health, life and dental benefits; assists county employees in matters related to benefits, filing claims, obtaining medical documentation, etc.

Conducts training and orientation for new employees; conducts exit interviews.

Coordinates advertising for new and open positions; conducts interviews with potential employees; coordinates hiring process with department heads.

Prepares, submits and maintains records for employee safety; ensures accuracy and timeliness of reports submitted by employees.

Prepares departments for employee performance evaluations; schedules outside vendors for employee supervisory training, performance evaluation and other reviews or updates.

Handles Risk Management (i.e. Worker’s Compensation , Property & Liability, etc.)

Performs any finance duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of the philosophies, principles and practices of public personnel administration, including testing and selection, wage and salary, training, employee relations, benefits and unemployment insurance program; thorough knowledge of local government organization and administration; ; ability to present facts and recommendations effectively both orally and in writing; ability to analyze facts and prepare detailed recommendations and reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county officials, elected officials, departmental, venders, associates, and the general pubic.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in human resource management, or related field and considerable experience in government operations and practices as well as knowledge of human resource management procedures, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work occasionally requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.

Possession of or ability to obtain Notary Public license
