Juvenile Crime Prevention Council Program Coordinator

General Definition of Work

Performs intermediate skilled human support work coordinating community service program for juveniles ad at-risk youths, preparing and maintaining files and records, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Sheriff.  Limited supervision is exercised over subordinate program personnel.

Essential Functions

Coordinates community programs and activities for juveniles; collaborates with various county agencies to identify at-risk youths.

Develops daily lesson plans and monthly activity schedules for individual program areas.

Creates, maintains, reviews client files to ensure accuracy and completeness

Communicates with court counselors, school resource officers and Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention staff to ensure compliance with program policy and procedures.

Maintains open communication with parents/guardians of program participants.

Assists with annual grant proposal, request and all related requirements.

Completes and submits various status reports for Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and North Carolina Cooperative Extension.

Identifies available sites for youth to perform assigned community service; inspects sites to ensure safety and supervision of youths.

Trains all adult and youth volunteers.

General knowledge of services, benefits and programs available for juveniles; general knowledge of county and non-profit agencies and their needs; general knowledge of the demographics of the service area; ability to interpret and apply regulations; ability to schedule, assign and supervise the work of others; ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to establish effective working relationships with associates, agencies and clients.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in human services, or related field and minimal experience working with juveniles and at-risk youths, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, frequently requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires standing and walking; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
