JOB DESCRIPTION:  Camden County's Department of Social Services is seeking to hire an Intake Social Worker II.  This position is responsible for taking reports of alleged child abuse, neglect, and dependency and completing investigations and/or family assessments on referrals of children who are alleged to be abused, neglected, or dependent.  Responsible for taking reports of alleged abused, neglected, or exploited adults.   This position also determines the eligibility of clients applying for and receiving Low Income Energy Assistance Program and Employment Services.  This position requires thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their applications to complex casework, treatment, and investigation/assessments of abused, neglected, or dependent children; thorough knowledge of policies and procedures shown by the ability to cite the authority of federal and state law; thorough knowledge of individual and group behavior, family dynamics, and psychosocial problems. This position requires you to be on-call on a rotation basis for after-hours and weekends to respond to child and adult protective services reports.  The worker must possess the ability to perform manual work exerting up to 50 pounds of force to move objects and/or lift a child/children and equipment when necessary and a valid NC driver’s license.

This position requires occasional overnight travel and overtime as needed to meet state mandates and timelines.  As with all positions with the Department of Social Services, this position is mandatory to serve in shelters in times of natural and man-made disasters including overnight and weekends.

The selected candidate must understand and utilize correctly all Federal, State, and local laws, policies, and procedures relevant to child and adult abuse, neglect (caretaker/self), dependency, and exploitation.  This person must be able to communicate effectively with individuals from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds and a variety of mental capacities to convey information obtained in a concise and accurate format. This position is assigned to the Services Unit at Camden County Department of Social Services. The standard work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Essential duties and responsibilities: include but are not limited to:  Excellent communication and customer service skills;  Ability to work cohesively as part of a team;   Maintaining electronic database information / inputting both alpha and numeric data elements; Ability to summarize information in a concise and accurate manner;  Completing documentation in a timely manner based on county, state, and federal requirements to ensure appropriate service provision to children and families; Flexible with daily work assignments as needed; Completing and submitting documentation within established timeframes; Completing all documentation related to initial legal and court proceedings and; Attending at least 24 hours of ongoing professional development training each appraisal year.

Minimum Training and Experience:  Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work or; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative or; Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year of directly related experience or; Master's degree in counseling in a human services field and one year of social work or counseling (Department of Social Services) or; Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years of directly related experience or; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience (Department of Social Services). 

 

Note - A work-against candidate will be considered at a lower salary, allowing the suitable candidate to obtain experience by working in a lower classification.
